What is a Dental Bridge?

A dental bridge is a type of prosthetic device used to replace one or more missing teeth. A dental bridge consists of two or more crowns (the visible portion of a dental implant) that are anchored in place by one or more artificial teeth called pontics, which are attached to the crowns. The pontics fill the gap created by missing teeth, while the crowns are placed over the natural teeth on either side of the gap.

What are the Benefits of a Dental Bridge Over Dental Implants?

A dental bridge and dental implants are both options for replacing missing teeth, but they have different benefits and considerations. Some of the benefits of a dental bridge over dental implants include:

Cost: Dental bridges are typically less expensive than dental implants, especially when multiple teeth need to be replaced.

Speed: The placement of a dental bridge can be completed in a shorter amount of time compared to dental implants, which require a healing period before the crowns can be attached.

Maintenance: Bridges typically require less maintenance than dental implants and are easier to clean.

No Surgical Procedure: Unlike dental implants, bridges do not require a surgical procedure to place the anchors into the jawbone.

Dental Implants Have their Own Benefits as Well

Longevity: Dental implants are typically more durable than bridges and can last for several decades with proper care.

Preservation of Healthy Tooth Structure: Dental implants do not require the reduction of adjacent healthy teeth, as is often the case with dental bridges.

Stability: Dental implants are anchored into the jawbone, providing a more stable base for the replacement teeth.
